Jack Reed, D-R.I., has pushed FERC to work more closely with the Coast Guard on security concerns, and also looking at a regional plan for siting new terminals. Donald Carcieri denounced the FERC review, saying that while he favors increasing natural gas supplies and is willing to work with the region, "I cannot support a proposal that could threaten the well-being of Rhode Island residents or the health of Narragansett Bay." And many urged caution Wednesday as FERC moves through the approval process. The study also looked for businesses opportunities in the area during the period 2009-2014 and highlights important growth in non-oil industries such as poultry and egg production, seasoning and dressing manufacturing, breweries, and grain farming, among others. But it is not known how much it will cost to complete the safety upgrades that FERC said would be necessary at the 30-year-old facility.Ī bigger worry, according to officials, is whether FERC will take a broader, regional view of the five LNG facilities that are being proposed for the Atlantic coast between Massachusetts and New Jersey. ![]() The study assesses the economic impacts of the shale including direct, indirect, and induced impacts in the 21 counties directly and indirectly involved in production. With prices around $50 per barrel, it is expected that the Eagle Ford Shale (EFS) will continue its growth in the near future. The number of rigs in the area grew from a low of 36 by June 2016 to 80 by March 2017, more than double in less than a year.
